Dr Rory Tope is a registered osteopath and a member of the Australian Osteopathic Association.
Rory Graduated from The British School of Osteopathy (BSO)1995.
Upon graduation Rory was awarded the "Clinic prize" for distinction in the field of clinical competence, coming top in his year.
During his time at the BSO Rory selected to take part in 'The Rosemary project', providing osteopathic care for special needs kids aged 2 to 19 years old. This was a community project at the Rosemary school in Islington, London.
Over the four years that he took part in the project, he not only found it to be an incredible personal experience but also gained constant one on one tuition with some of the top osteopaths in that field at the time in the treatment of children and those with special needs. This involved exposure to a wide variety of osteopathic techniques such as cranial, visceral, classical osteopathy, treatment of mothers during pregnancy, babies and children. This was to prove to be essential groundwork in osteopathy and was the beginning of the development of skills and an area of special interest for his professional career to follow.
Upon graduation Rory moved to Ireland where he worked in a very busy 'General Practice' style osteopathic clinic where he further developed his skills in the treatment of a wide variety of conditions including 'normal' muscular-skeletal complaints but also those encountered during pregnancy, treatment of mother and child post part-um and of developing children.
A strong emphasis was placed upon treatment of the whole patient in order to improve their general well being and essential health no matter what age or presenting complaint. This has remained at the core of Rory's philosophy of osteopathic care ever since.
Whilst in Dublin Rory was a founding osteopath at the Osteopathic Center for Children and taught human anatomy to the first intake of undergraduate students of the first Osteopathic School in Ireland.
In 1997 Rory moved to New Zealand where he ran busy clinics in Tairua and Whitianga, in the Corromandel peninsular and later in Auckland where he remained till he moved to Melbourne in August 2010.
During this time he worked with midwifes, G.P's and specialists in order to provide a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care, and was on call for treatment of mothers and babies at Auckland's top birthing center.
Besides his practice commitments time was found to be senior lecturer in anatomy and was a clinic tutor for post graduate students in their final clinical year before becoming Registered Osteopaths.
Also Rory was the regional 'leader' for the central north island, providing continuing professional development and a forum for patient and practice discussion for Qualified Osteopaths.
He was an examiner for both the New Zealand Register of Osteopaths and subsequently The Osteopathic Council of New Zealand for eight years, ensuring that migrant Osteopaths had the appropriate levels of knowledge, clinical judgement and osteopathic skills required for registration and practice (these are the same as in Australia).
In addition to these undertakings, over the years Rory has completed many Post grad courses, frequently traveling to the U.K. and the U.S. in order to constantly expand his skill level and structure.
